Masked Dot Bracelet

Welcome to muon.org! My name is Robin Snuttjer, and I make handmade glass beads. Sometimes I even make jewelry from them. I have a facination with melting glass in a flame, and I set up this page to share my love of lampwork beads.

Lampworking, also known as flameworking or torchworking, is a method of melting and shaping rods and/or tubes of glass using a torch. A variety of objects can be made using these techniques - everything from beads to candy dishes. It is the most ancient type of glass work, (if you extend the definition of the heat source to include a small fire) and has been practiced for thousands of years.

Ribbon Bead I am relatively new to lampworking, so I have a lot to learn, a lot of practicing to do, and a lot of experimenting to do. Some days when I go down to my home studio I know what I'm going to do and some days I don't know until I sit down at the torch. Some days I know what to expect when I open the kiln, and some days it is a complete surprise - not always pleasant. But, I love working with hot glass. There's something both very intense and very meditative in watching glass melt and flow in the flame.

For more information about me and my glasswork, check out my About page, and my Studio page. Or, to see some of my work, you can visit my Gallery page. Other sites of mine include my blog - Me, In An Atypical Way, and my Flickr photos. Finally, if you have any comments or questions or just want to say hi, you can Contact me. I love feedback so feel free to get in touch.

I am a member of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers, and the local chapter, Southern Flames. I am also a member of the Self Representing Artist project.

By the way, a muon is a subatomic particle. When I picked this name, many years ago, I had particle physics on my mind, and the muon sounded like the cutest particle. I am not, nor have I ever been a physicist - I just think physics is fun. For more information on subatomic particles, you can visit The Particle Adventure.
