Welcome to muon.org! This is the homepage of muon glass - Lampwork Beads and Jewelry by Robin Snuttjer.
A muon is a subatomic particle. When I picked this name, many years ago, I had particle physics on my mind, and the muon sounded like the cutest particle. I am not, nor have I ever been a physicist - I just think physics is fun. For more information on subatomic particles, you can visit The Particle Adventure.
Lampworking, also known as flameworking or torchworking, is a method of melting and shaping rods and/or tubes of glass using a torch. A variety of objects can be made using these techniques - everything from beads to candy dishes. For more information on lampworking and its history, check out this article by Robert Mickelsen.
I am relatively new to lampworking so I have a lot to learn, a lot of practicing to do, and a lot of experimenting to do. Some days when I go down to my home studio I know what I'm going to do and some days I don't know until I sit down at the torch. Some days I know what to expect when I open the kiln, and some days it is a complete surprise - not always pleasant. But, I love working with hot glass. There's something both very intense and very meditative in watching glass melt and flow in the flame.
